The Gateway to the newest Lewis & Clark National Park, located on the southern tip of the peninsula and the Discovery Trail. A historic fishing village with a core of specialized shops, restaurants, bowling lanes, lodging, RV parks, state of the art hospital, a working port and the Yellow Bluffs as noted in Clark’s Journals. Ilwaco boasts world class Charter and Sports Fishing for salmon, sturgeon, halibut, sea bass and lingcod. The Ilwaco Heritage Museum is an official recognized site on the Lewis & Clark Trail. Cape Disappointment State Park, a unit of the new Lewis & Clark National Historical Park, features old growth forest trails, shoreline paths and two historic lighthouses. One path follows the route taken by Captain Clark in November 1805 as he explored Cape Disappointment on the peninsula. The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center focuses on the Corps of Discovery’s local explorations and houses a unique Book and Gift store which overlooks the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River. The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum
The Museum is a major cultural resource institution of southwest Washington. It is listed as an official site on the Lewis & Clark Historic Trail emphasized by a large new exhibit. Exhibits cover historical developments of the Columbia Pacific region. Beginning in 2005, enjoy special Lewis & Clark exhibits, including “Don’t Bother Me With The Facts: Uses and Abuses of the Lewis & Clark Theme in Popular Culture”.
